Coccoloba Diversifolia Pigeon Plum can reach heights of 20 to 40 feet and is an upright, evergreen tree. This drought-tolerant variety grows on clay to sandy soils that are moist and well-drained and receive full sun to partial shade. Pigeon Plum has leathery, ovate leaves with bright to dark green upper surfaces and pale green undersides. A reddish tint can be seen on the newly formed leaves. Spring and summer bring on blossoming clusters of creamy white. Dark red to purple, juicy, acidic berry clusters follow these blossoms. For coastal settings, this shrub works wonders. It showcases smooth, light gray bark that becomes mottled and multicolored with age and reveals the dark purplish bark.
