Description

Magnolia Virginiana Sweetbay Magnolia is cascaded with solitary, cup-shaped, lemon-scented blooms in mid-spring. Some sporadic blooming may also occur in summer. The blooms consist of 9-12 velvety petals of creamy-white shades. The foliage of Sweetbay Magnolia looks vibrant with lanceolate, glossy leaves with silvery under surface. The deciduous tree is an eye-catcher in borders, foundation plantings, and near ponds. Sweetbay Magnolia grows best in full sun to partial shade in medium to wet, slightly acidic, organically rich soils. The multi-stemmed tree has a rounded-spreading habit. Showy, cone-like fruits containing bright red seeds also emerge from Sweetbay Magnolia.
