Carpinus Caroliniana American Hornbeam

Carpinus Caroliniana American Hornbeam has an upright-spreading form with a rounded crown. The leaves of American Hornbeam emerge with reddish-purple tones in spring, change to dark green, and exude yellow to orange-red tones during fall. American Hornbeam's blooms appear in separate male and female catkins in spring. The female catkins give way to masses of winged nutlets from late spring to early fall. The deciduous tree is useful in shady, naturalized, or woodland landscapes. The shade tree loves full sun to partial shade in fertile, dry to moist, well-drained soils.
