If you’re a professional landscaper, it’s only a matter of time before you need a centrifugal pump or jet pump for a project. As the most common types of irrigation pumps on the market, they are very effective for low- and mid-size water volume and pressure. Find a centrifugal well pump or system that can pump water from lakes, ponds, streams or whatever other source your client has available.

Centrifugal Pump vs. Jet Pump

While they are both surface pumps, centrifugal and jet pumps serve very different purposes. If you are new to irrigation system installation or need a refresher, use this comparison to choose the right pump for your client.
  • The centrifugal pump is an end-suction pump designed to be within five feet of the water’s surface. They are popular for sprinklers and are very efficient at pushing water out to irrigation lines. Centrifugal pumps must be filled with water, or “primed”, before using them.
  • The jet pump is a specific centrifugal pump that uses the Venturini effect to help pull water upward, which lets you place the pump farther away when there is shallow groundwater or obstacles. This comes at the expense of flow capacity and PSI, making them better suited to drip lines and filling pools.

SiteOne Landscape Supply has Pentair, Myers, Flint & Walling, Berkely and Sta-Rite irrigation pumps among other brands. Choose vertical inline pumps for a smaller installation footprint, horizontal sprinkler pumps for easier maintenance and multistage centrifugal pumps to increase discharge pressure. Questions?
